What is a Locked Topic?

What does it mean if a Topic is locked (i.e. just a subset of group members are also members of the topic). What about the others? Do they see the topic? Can they open the topic and read the chat?

Hi mprove,

we answer this via mouseover messages:

Further locked objects can only be seen by their members. Only object owners or administrators are able to add further group members to a locked object.

Best regards
Micha

Thanks. I saw the mouseover messages. They address a different question. Hence thanks for the additional info.

Using locked objects enables you to have secret areas within a group. Eg. a topic only for C-level, a directory where HR stores their stuff, planning someones birthday party in an appointment…

I see.

The UI is not as clear as it should be. For example if I change my mind and click "Unlock Members" essentially nothing happens. The topic remains only visible to the checked members. Depending on the group size I have to tick quite a lot people – in my case 15 indivisual people for 2 topics each. You owe me 30 clicks of my life-time 😉

Hi mprove,

this has been explained in various articles – I know, you are a native German speaker able to read these 😉

Eg. here, in an answer with screenshots: https://support.protonet.info/?qa=493

There are checkboxes next to each group member within the object’s user list. As long it is not checked for a user, this user is not able to see that object.

Also during creating object you can choose if you want to assign anyone or noone or only some. And if closed or not.

Ja, that’s my point. If you start a locked topic and want to unlock later, then you have to tick each an every user of the group that is not yet member of the topic.
